Biography
Finnur Karlsson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the spring of 2012 and a masters degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in the spring of 2015. Finnur’s main composition teachers have been Hans Abrahamsen, Úlfar Ingi Haraldsson, Atli Ingólfsson, Simon Løffler and Niels Rosing-Schow. Finnur is currently working on an advanced postgraduate diploma (Danish: Solistklassen) at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Finnur’s music has been performed by ensembles like Brák Baroque Band, Copenhagen Phil, Decoda, Elektra Ensemble, Iceland Amateur Symphony Orchestra, Siggi String Quartet, Slowind, TAK and Ventus. Finnur was the composer in residence at the Skálholt Summer Concerts music festival in 2015, and was nominated to the Icelandic Music Prize 2015 for Fold; the piece commissioned by festival.

Finnur is, along with Bára Gísladóttir, Halldór Smárason, Haukur Þór Harðarson and Petter Ekman, a member of the composer collective Errata.

Finnur Karlsson lauk bakkalárprófi í tónsmíðum frá Listaháskóla Íslans vorið 2012 og mastersnámi í tónsmíðum frá Konunglega danska konservatoríinu vorið 2015. Helstu tónsmíðakennarar Finns hafa verið Hans Abrahamsen, Úlfar Ingi Haraldsson, Atli Ingólfsson, Simon Løffler og Niels Rosing-Schow. Finnur leggur nú stund á frekara framhaldsnám (d. Solistklassen) í tónsmíðum við Konunglega danska konservatoríið

Verk Finns hafa meðal annars verið flutt af Barokkbandinu Brák, Copenhagen Phil, Decoda, Elektra Ensemble, Sinfóníuhljómsveit Áhugamanna, Slowind, Strokkvartettinum Sigga, TAK og Ventus. Finnur var staðartónskáld Sumartónleika í Skálholtskirkju 2015, en verkið sem pantað var af hátíðinni, Fold, var tilnefnt til Íslensku tónlistarverðlaunanna 2015.

Finnur er meðlimur í tónskáldakollektívinu Errata ásamt Báru Gísladóttur, Halldóri Smárasyni, Hauki Þór Harðarsyni og Petter Ekman.
